Two dead and several injured in accident near Charleston and Nellis Blvd
On Christmas Eve, a multi-vehicle crash in the east valley tragically killed a 40-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The crash occurred on Charleston Boulevard west of Nellis Boulevard at 1:25 p.m., and witnesses reported that the driver of a Mazda 3 had swerved to avoid a jaywalking pedestrian. However, in an updated statement, police said the driver had actually run a red light at the intersection of Charleston and Nellis and ”for unknown reasons…failed to maintain its travel lane.”
The Mazda veered across the median and into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a 2008 Toyota Sienna, a 2002 Ford F-150, and a 2013 Cadillac STX. The Mazda eventually stopped on the south sidewalk of Charleston. The driver and passenger of the Mazda both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Five people in the other three cars sustained minor injuries and were taken to University Medical Center’s trauma center, and two more sustained minor injuries but declined to be taken to a hospital.
