52 year-old man in critical condition after being struck by vehicle in the east Las Vegas valley
On Tuesday night, a 52-year-old man was hospitalized with ”life-threatening” injuries after being struck by a car while riding his bike in the east valley. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the incident occurred at the intersection of Sloan Lane and Whispering Pines Avenue around 7:09 p.m. Evidence, surveillance footage, and witness statements revealed that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was driving north on Sloan Lane in the inside lane when the bicyclist crossed the street from the west to east side, outside of the implied crosswalk. The cyclist then made a sudden right turn from the center turn lane, crossing the Hyundai’s path. The driver attempted to avoid the bicyclist by braking and swerving right, but the collision was unavoidable. The cyclist was transported to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Section with life-threatening injuries. The driver stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. The investigation is still ongoing.
